Breathwork 101 – Pranayama Basics

(Hybrid workshop: online as well as in person)

As a fundamental part of life, the breath is with us from the moment we are born until the day we die. While there is an abundance of different breathing techniques available and it can be difficult to know where to start, breathwork doesn’t have to be confusing.

In this workshop, we will learn about healthy breathing patterns and how breathing can manage stress and anxiety, calm and prepare the mind for meditation and relax or energise the body during your yoga class and in daily life. We will draw on the ancient and established practices of yoga pranayama (prana = breath or life force energy, pranayama = restraint or control of energy) and supplement our learning with the latest scientific research on physiological effects of breathing and optimal gas exchange. The workshop will include practical seated / supine breathing exercises, simple combinations of breath and movement and theoretical components. You will receive a PDF handout summary of all the exercises by email so that you can incorporate them into your daily routine.

This workshop is open to practitioners of all levels of experience and ability. Complete beginners are very welcome to attend regardless of fitness or flexibility, while experienced yogis will have the opportunity to work at a deeper level. Please wear something comfortable that does not restrict breathing.

Price: £20 for one workshop or £45 discount bundle for three sessions – more info here.
